Site Background

New construction near active fault lines requires careful geological risk assessment to ensure safety. This project focused on studying the electrical stratigraphy, location, and geological features of the Milun Fault in the new development areas of Hualien City.

Site Status

The site is located in Hualien City and has complex fault-zone geology. Urban constraints limit exploration methods, so multiple survey techniques were combined for a thorough understanding.

Approach

GTE used electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) with various array setups to map the electrical stratigraphy of the Milun Fault. Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) helped identify underground pipelines and structures, revealing subsurface rock layers and geological formations.

Findings showed the gravel layer thins from northeast to southwest, from Milun Formation gravels to river terrace deposits. These insights provide crucial data for construction planning, helping identify fractured zones and geological risks to support safer engineering design.
